Multicultural Weddings
Multicultural weddings have a special place in my heart. Many years ago, I was asked to coordinate my first Indian wedding. The bride was Hindu, and her husband was Chinese, and my role was to create one seamless event integrating both cultures, multiple ceremonies and one combined family celebration that spanned a several days.
Wow that was an undertaking, but I researched, I learned along the way, and I soon found out that bringing together two distinct cultures was my superpower. Since that time, I have been hired to create multi-day Indian weddings and countless Persian, Nepali, Nigerian, Chinese, Russian and Jewish wedding celebrations. I have grown to love these celebrations so much because they continue to evolve as traditions modernize. I love to work with families to ensure the event reflects the full family and that the couple is thrilled, and they are making their families proud at the same time.
In particular, Indian weddings are filled with ritual and celebrations that span multiple days. From the Welcome ceremony to the Mendhi (henna ceremony), the Sangeet (a pre-wedding dinner with music and dancing), the Baraat (the groomβs arrival), and the ceremony followed by lunch, a break, and the evening reception. Not only do I understand Indian culture, but I will also help you plan, design, coordinate the wedding of your dreams, respecting your traditions and possibly creating new ones.
